Weekly Photo Challenge: Unique
2 Feb 2013
When I saw this week’s WordPress Photo Challenge topic of unique my mind went completely blank. I am so used to my own photography I don’t really see anything as unique. I did however come up with a couple that I thought might fit the topic. Hope you enjoy what I have chosen. Thanks for stopping by and visiting my blog. For my first couple of photos, they are of some type of vegetable that I have never seen before. Anyone have any idea, I think it maybe some kind of hybrid broccoli. Chris and I saw a couple of fields of these last weekend (in January) near Canby, Oregon.
Click on any of the smaller photos for a full sized slide show.
Hugs and blessings

Hi I think, they are Brussel Sprouts the scourge of children, I don’t know if they are popular in the US but they certainly are in the UK, Christmas isn’t Christmas without brussel sprouts on the plate next to the turkey. Your like me, using your photography. I have difficulty communicating with adults, I always have, I think that’s why I love working with children, they don’t judge. I have been a pro photographer for a long time and I love it just wish it paid more lol. Take care.

Hi Pete, you are correct it is brussel sprouts. They are fairly popular in fine dining in the US. I am not a fan of them. Thanks for the info.

This is very neat Cee, I think it’s broccoli too, my fave.:)
Feb 02, 2013 @ 12:07:13
great pics.
Feb 02, 2013 @ 12:45:32
That’s really weird. They look like broccoli palm trees.
Feb 02, 2013 @ 12:59:20
I think they may be the stalks and leaves left behind after the sprouts (disgusting things) have been picked!
Feb 02, 2013 @ 13:17:31
I agree with Pete on what they are or might be. Anyway – they look great!
Feb 02, 2013 @ 13:27:45
I thought it was broccoli! Great post.

I thought it was broccoli too…. maybe I should write a poem about unique, or broccoli…maybe I should just lie down. I’m cooking, though, so I gotta watch the pot!
Feb 02, 2013 @ 13:33:35
It is actually brussel sprouts. YuK!!!! Pete was right.
Feb 02, 2013 @ 13:53:53
I remember them from my childhood–haven’t bought any since!!
Feb 02, 2013 @ 13:55:50
I can understand why!!!
Feb 02, 2013 @ 13:33:46
Looks like a forest of miniature palm trees of some new species!!!!!!
Feb 02, 2013 @ 14:18:46
Fascinating – they look like Brussels sprout stems with broccoli on top. Sprouts look like tiny cabbages, so the top is usually large cabbage-like leaves – http://www.123rf.com/photo_13119640_girl-in-brussels-sprouts-plant.html
I actually like Brussels sprouts, they are very tasty when not overcooked.

My fave is the castle made of hay bales. But as for the Brussels sprouts—love ‘em, but that’s probably b/c I’m from England.

I like brussels sprouts. The castle made out of hay bales looks like fun to me.

I’ve been seeing something in the fields near here like this, too. Brussels sprouts makes sense, but the leave are so curly. Strange indeed. Everyone puts those magnetic words on the fridge – I LOVE them on a car! Thanks! -

Brussels sprout flowers.?? Is it after the foulest vegetable ever discovered, been cropped.??
Feb 03, 2013 @ 02:41:42
In Germany they have a winter cabbage called “Grünkohl” (green cabbage) that looks quite like the plant in your pic. It is very popular in North of Germany as a dish called “Grünkohl und Pinkel”. I’ve never tasted it, because it looks not so tasty to me, although the locals assure it is yummy….

I know nothing about vegetation in Oregon (or too many other places for that matter) but they definitely look like broccoli trees to me
Little cheddar cheese, stick ‘em in the oven, yum!

Love the pictures of the veggies, whose name I’m not certain of. They look like something in a fanasyland.
Feb 03, 2013 @ 17:59:48
I vote for broccoli palm tree mutants as someone else mentioned. I thought so before reading the comments. Don’t look like brussel sprouts which oddly enough I like. Really? Brussel sprouts?
Feb 03, 2013 @ 18:12:20
Since we’re talking about Brussel sprouts, I like them cooked with butter and garlic (yum!). I love the photo of the magnets on the car. That’s very unique!
Feb 04, 2013 @ 18:08:00
Those are very unique Cee! I’ve never seen anything quite like that!! Hope your Monday was nice.
Feb 05, 2013 @ 22:26:27
After reading your comments list I think I must be unique I LOVE Brussels sprouts….:)
Feb 06, 2013 @ 00:11:23
I thought brussels sprouts before I read the comments. I feel very pleased with myself that I was correct!
Lovely photos – wonder why the car was covered with magnetic words – what a temptation to touch it and move the words round.

Cee, these are unique. Thanks for sharing them
Feb 06, 2013 @ 10:18:13
They do look like broccoli, without the leaves. They look different though.I see Brussels sprouts in the comments. I love those little cuties.

Looks like Broccoli Rabe to me.
